From One Generation of Musicians to the Next...

Mike Pinder’s SONGWARS songwriters contest

is a quarterly competition to nurture songwriters

with the help from the pros. Each entry will

receive a critique by one of our industry

professionals. Prizes will be awarded to 1st,

2nd place winners. There will also be an

annual overall grand-prize winner selected from

the four quarterly grand-prize winners. Song

finalists and winners will be showcased on the website.

Mike Pinder was one of the founding members of The Moody Blues in early 1960's. The band had many hits including  Go Now, Nights in White Satin, and Tuesday Afternoon, to name only a few.  Mike is well known for his ground breaking use of the Mellotron in rock music. Mike introduced the Mellotron to The Beatles, and subsequently they used the instrument on many records including Sergeant Pepper. As a Singer Songwriter Mike wrote many of the Moody Blues songs and won the Ivor Novello award for Social Content for his song Simple Game.  Mike has always supported new artists and has three musician sons, two of whom are also singer songwriters. Mike has a strong sense of artistic responsibility to support the development of music from one generation to the next. He has a desire to help new talent refine their art and be validated through that process. This songwriter’s competition is the result of his vision and passion.
