Born in Oakland, California, Stef Burns grew up in neighboring Walnut Creek. He started playing his dad's guitar around age six and got his first electric guitar at age seven. The young Stef started to play in bands when he was in high school.

In 1979, his first real club band was Omega, a large funk band with horns.

Since 1982, Stef boosted his career by playing with a diverse selection of international artists such as Huey Lewis & The News, Italy's great Vasco Rossi, Alice Cooper (he had a part in the hit film "Waynes World"), Y&T, Berlin, Sheila E, Michael Bolton, Narada Michael Walden, Pablo Cruise, Marc Russo (Yellowjackets, Tower Of Power), Jesse Colin Young (Youngbloods), The VU and jazz saxophonist Sadao Watanabe.

Today, Stef releases albums, records for TV and radio commercials, film score work and live shows for various artists and producers; he played on a VH-1 TV special with Stevie Wonder, Steve Winwood, James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Chaka Kahn, Nile Rodgers, and Narada Michael Walden.

Around 1990, Stef formed the Stef Burns Group, playing gigs around the San Francisco bay area.  Throughout the years, Stef managed to build up a large network in the international music scene. This way he's able to have the "best of the best" musicians to record his music. Of course there's been different line ups throughout the years.  The members of the Stef Burns Group have included John Seppala - Keys, Myron Dove - Bass (Santana/Robben Ford), Billy Johnson - Drums (Santana/Robben Ford).

His first solo album, "Swamp Tea" was released in 1999 and was a great collaboration with keyboardist, and high school buddy, John Seppala. The musicians performing on "Swamp Tea" include Drummers Narada Michael Walden, Deen Castronovo, Steve Smith and Jimmy DeGrasso; Santana bassists Benny Rietveld and Myron Dove; Keyboardists John Seppala and Frank Martin and Percussionist Marquinho Brasil.

His second album is a duo collaboration with dear friend, and acoustic guitar master, Peppino D'Agostino. Entitled "Bayshore Road" and released on Favored Nations Records, it was critically acclaimed by critics and fans alike.

Stef's new album, released in early 2008, called "World, Universe, Infinity", features even a bigger group of great musicians including, Huey Lewis, Bill Champlin, Sean Hopper, Lyle Workman, Abe Laboriel Jr, Jimmy Johnson, Peppino D'Agostino, Marc Russo, Benny Rietveld, Jeff Campitelli, John Seppala, Juan Van Emmerloot, Walter Latuperissa, Fabio Valdemarin, Paolo Muscovi, Giovanni Toffoloni, Jeff Babko, John R Burr, Rob Sudduth, Johnnie Bamont, Louis Fasman, Sarah O'Brien and Josh Birnbaum.

Currently touring with Huey Lewis and The News and Vasco Rossi, in 2008 he will take to the road with the Stef Burns Group in Europe. The line up features Fabio Valdemarin on keys, Juan Van Emmerloot on drums and Walter Latupeirissa on bass. On the last tour the audience was totally blown away by Stef's melodic playing, great dynamics of the band and the constant energy that this band shares with their crowd.
