A native of Akron, Ohio,  started his first working band at age 12, majored in music at Ithaca College and has been studying  performing and writing music ever since.  On keys, guitar and vocals, he has worked in primarily the country, rock and pop genres but has spent time on the folk circuit, and sung with big band jazz acts as well . He toured for five years and recorded three albums with pop-rock icons Daryl Hall & John Oates, working with legendary producer David Foster  and most of Elton John’s famous band on the duo’s RCA release Along The Red Ledge . David signed a solo album deal with Epic Records in New York, and released his self titled debut project produced by John Anthony (Ace - How Long Has This Been Going On).  In 1990 David brought his writing talents to Nashville just as his first country single, “Lessons of Love” was hitting the charts; it proved to be the first of many more.   His songs have been recorded by many of Country music’s biggest stars including,   Martina McBride,  Blake Shelton, Rodney Atkins,  Tracy Byrd,  Neal McCoy,  Mark Wills,  Lari White,  Blaine Larsen,  Marty Raybon (Shenandoah), and Jeff Carson.

A review of his Top-10 song “Stepping Stone” prompted “People Magazine” (9/14/98) to name David,  exemplifying how “…today’s best pop songwriters show up in country music ”

David has numerous platinum and gold CD’s to his credit, a crop of charted singles, his share of Top 20’s, 10’s, and 5’s,  as well as BMI performance awards for Rodney Atkins’ “Honesty (Write Me a List) and a  “ Two Million  Broadcast”  award for Blake Shelton’s “Austin”  which stayed at number one on all three country music charts for 5 weeks.

Although country music has been his main focus, David has scored well in other areas too, with chart-topping bluegrass cuts by Charlie Sizemore of Ralph Stanley’s Clinch Mountain Boys, Tim O’Brien and Hot Rize, and a novelty recording by cowboy-comedy group Riders In The Sky.  He also penned many international cuts, and has landed his music in Hollywood features, (Martin Sheen/Natasia Kinski - Terminal Velocity), documentaries (Michael Moore’s –Captain Mike’s Slacker Uprising Tour to be released in 2008) , and independent films (Robert Liebermans’ award winning -Green Lights)

David lives near Nashville in Pleasant View, Tennessee with his wife Cynthia and three children, Claudia, Jackson and James.
