For over thirty years, Don Bassey has shared stages and studios with some of San Francisco’s finest rock, blues and alternative musicians.

When Volker Strifler was putting his new band together in 2002, he called Don to fill the bass slot and team with award-winning drummer Gary Silva in the Volker Strifler Band (VSB) rhythm section. Don is featured on the band’s current Blue Rock’It/Blind Pig Records release “And the Dance Goes On”. VSB is currently working on new material for their next record, due in late 2009.

A 17-year musical relationship with guitarist/producer Kevin Russell continues today with the Kevin Russell Band. Don also plays bass and sings with multi-talented singer/songwriters Jessie Turner and Ira Marlowe. Blues and rock greats Ron Thompson, Chris Cain, Stef Burns, Andy Just, Daniel Castro, Joel Jaffe, Mike Varney, Kevin Hayes, Garth Webber, Steve Gornall, Little John Chrisley, the Detroit Disciples, Bobby Walker, Guy Arrostuto, Johnny Vernazza, and the Alameda All Stars are among the many Bay Area artists Don has worked with over the years.

Don spent the late Sixties and early Seventies touring in the Midwest with the rock band Touchstone and moved to the Bay Area in 1972. Currently writing and compiling songs for a solo record, he is also collaborating with other songwriters on a variety of projects. With a passion for music education and a desire to help people enjoy playing music, Don has developed a bass instruction program and is currently working with a number of students.

Concurrent with his music career, Don spent close to 14 years with the noted loudspeaker company NHT. There he managed the company’s pro audio clients, developing lasting friendships with top recording artists, producers, engineers, and studio owners. 

Don Bassey is a voting member of NARAS, and a member of the Audio Engineering Society.
